The Set Up Process
- Whole staff briefing and overview of the 15 criteria (Level 1 accreditation) and / or the 5 criteria (Level 2 accreditation). The journey ahead and what success will look like. Why do it? Evidence of impact.
- Set-up or meeting with the Drive Team, Senior Leadership Team and Governor representatives. This to include meeting with (or appointment of) the Cognitive Education Co-ordinator. Detailed breakdown of the ‘A’, ‘T’, ‘E’ framework together with practical implications and ‘systems’ requirements (SISRA, FFT ASPIRE, SAIF ‘Live’). Establish a common conception of progress including metrics to be used.
- Tour of schools to establish contextual issues, including the lesson observation foci of Alert, Engaged and Able.
- Action Plan outline to include key support from Thinking Schools International and associated CPD opportunities. Dr Walters to set out initial development areas based on meetings and observations thus far.
- Arrangement of any on-going / additional support from GPES.

The GPP provides a clear 3 year development plan based on the 15 criteria used for accreditation as a ‘Thinking School’ and the 5 additional criteria used for accreditation as an ‘Advanced Thinking School’.
It then provides a professional development framework using ‘A’, ‘T’, ‘E’ as its structure. Teachers, Leaders and Support Staff will therefore receive support, guidance and instruction in the following 3 areas:
